Many gardeners and home fruit growers would love to grow more than one type of citrus. However, the reality of limited space can often make growing multiple citrus trees impossible. Now our Meyer Lemon / Persian Lime Cocktail Tree solves the problem by letting you grow two different citrus fruits in the same pot.

This Lemon-Lime Citrus Cocktail Tree is the result of planting both of these in the same pot. The result is two fruit trees in the space of one. Having these two varieties of citrus lets you grow one pot on your patio and harvest both Meyer Lemons and Persian Limes to use in recipes, beverages, sauces, and marinades. The Lemon-Lime Cocktail Tree is cold hardy, pest and disease resistant, and easy to grow.

You can expect a newly planted Cocktail Tree to bloom and start producing fruit in about one year once planted in the ground. This variety is grafted to dwarf rootstock so it will rarely grow above 5  feet tall in a pot and a little larger in ground. The Lemon Lime Cocktail Tree can be pruned to a desired size and shape, grown indoors in a container, or in the ground outdoors in USDA Zones 9 to 11.

Citrus x meyeri or commonly called the Meyer Lemon tree is a gorgeous evergreen citrus tree originally from China that is a hybrid between a common lemon tree and a mandarin orange tree. It was first discovered and sent to the United States in 1908 by Dutch horticulturist and botanist Frank Meyer who was working for the United States Department of Agriculture.

Unfortunately, the original Meyer Lemon Trees were found to be susceptible to a devastating virus called Citrus Tristeza and eventually became symptomless carriers of the said virus, which infected and killed millions of citrus trees across the United States and all over the world. Because of this, most Meyer lemon trees have to be destroyed. A surviving and virus-free Meyer lemon tree was then discovered by Don Dillon in 1950 and was later certified and released by the University of California as the Improved Meyer Lemon Tree in 1975.

The Improved Meyer Lemon Tree is cold hardy and best grows in US Department of Agriculture USDA hardiness zones 8 to 11. It is fairly vigorous, shrubby, and somewhat small in size upon reaching maturity standard Meyer lemon trees can grow as tall as 6 to 10 while the dwarf lemon tree can grow up to 4 to 6 in height.

This lemon tree variety has a spreading habit and is nearly thornless making it a great citrus tree to plant if you have kids, be it indoors or outdoors. This citrus tree blooms purple-tinted flowers all year round but blooms are more concentrated in spring or fall. The fragrant blooms then turn to medium-sized, orange-yellow, juicy sweet-tart lemons that are in season in fall/spring.

Growing citrus trees comes with many benefits. Citrus trees are easy to grow, produce a pleasant, fresh fragrance, and the fruit can be used for cooking, mixing drinks, baking and even cleaning. All of these benefits can be said for the Key Lime tree.

The Key Lime Tree is native to the small islands on the southern tip of eastern Florida. Key Lime trees are relatively small and seldom reach 12 ft in height. This hardy citrus tree is naturally resistant to pests and diseases and can adapt to many types of soil. It is bushy and has spindling branches that has short to medium length thorns. Key Lime Trees produce small white flowers that emit a spectacular aromatic scent that can last a whole season through.

Another notable aspect of this type of lime trees is that they are self-pollinating; meaning you only need one tree for it to bear fruits. All you have to do is take one flower from your tree and swab it over the other blooms and pollination process is already underway.

Key Lime tree – including the dwarf key lime tree – produces small, just about 1 ½ to 2 inches in diameter, and round to oblong fruit that has an invigorating blend of acidity and sweetness that is unique and unlike any other lime in the world. The rind of Key Lime is thin and smooth, and the color is deep green when unripe that turns to pale green when ready to be harvested. It also has 10 to 15 seeds that are polyembryonic.

Cold hardy down to 10 degrees F, The Celeste Fig Tree is fast growing and produces delectable, sweet fruit ideal for eating fresh, making jams, or preserving. The trees are resistant to many pests and diseases that plague other fruit trees, and they produce large crops of figs. All of these attributes make the Celeste Fig Tree one of the most desirable fruit trees you can grow.

Also called the Celestial Fig, the Celeste Fig grows to a mature size of 10 feet tall and 10 feet wide. The trees are a striking bright green with large leaves that can be as big as 10 to 12 inches across. The big leaves protect the fruit from the direct sunlight the tree needs to grow at its best. The fruit features a closed eye habit, that stops rot, and certain insects from attacking the ripening figs. This, combined with the Celeste Fig Tree’s fast growing nature, is what helps the tree make so many delicious, nutritious figs.

Meiwa Kumquats are large and well-known for their sweet, edible rind and flesh that has minimal seeds. The Meiwa Sweet Kumquat tree gives off an amazing citrus fragrance.

The Kumquat tree is a small, evergreen fruit tree of the family Rutaceae classified as genus Fortunella; Kumquat trees are historically classified as a citrus tree (genus Citrus), but the Swingle system of citrus taxonomy placed them in their own genus.

Meiwa Kumquat trees are a natural hybrid of Marumi and Nagami Kumquats. They were first brought to Japan during the Meiwa period 1764-72, hence the name. Kumquat trees were introduced to Europe by Robert Fortune in 1846 and shortly after to North America. Kumquat trees are divided into multiple species and one of them is the sweet Meiwa Kumquat tree (Fortunella crassifolia).

A Kumquat tree can grow as tall as 4’-8’ ft with dense branches that are relatively thornless. This citrus tree has glossy, dark green foliage and white fragrant blooms that occur singly or in clusters on the leaf axils.

Standard and Dwarf Kumquat trees do not grow well from seeds and are generally cultivated and propagated using rootstock of another citrus fruit. It is better to buy your Kumquat trees instead of growing them from seeds. Like most citrus fruits, Kumquats are self-pollinating but much hardier.

Meiwa Kumquat trees produce bright colored round to oval-shaped sweet fruits with an edible rind & flesh with soft seeds in the interior.

Goji Berries have become the darling of the natural health and nutrition world due to studies that indicate their possible ability to relieve depression, support the immune system, and stabilize blood sugar to name just a few potential benefits. The Goji Berry Plant comes from Southeast Asia and South Africa where it is sometimes called wolfberry or boxthorn. This erect shrub-like plant can also extend stems like a vine, and can be grown in USDA Zones 5 to 11. Goji Berry Plants can reach heights of twelve feet in ideal conditions, but they can also be kept much smaller by pruning.

Goji Berry Plants are self-fertile and will bloom their purple or sometimes cream colored flowers throughout the warm months. The Goji Berries are ready to pick about four to six weeks after the plants bloom, and the one-inch fruits ripen to bright red or orange. The berries can be eaten fresh, juiced, or (most commonly) dried and used as a dried fruit snack or cooking ingredient. Goji Berries are considered a superfood and contain protein, essential amino acids, iron, calcium, and Vitamins A and C. Add a few Goji Berry Plants to your edible landscape and begin harvesting this natural wonder berry at home.

The Flordagold Peach Tree grows delicious medium-sized peaches with firm yellow flesh and a yellow-red blushed skin. The Flordagold Peach Tree requires a short chill period, so it is good for growing in warmer climates. You can grow a Flordagold Peach Tree in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 5 to 9, where it will do best in the ground, in a sunny spot, with well-drained soil.

Flordagold Peach Trees grow to between 12 and 20 feet tall. They can be pruned to help maintain a balanced shape and to keep the tree smaller overall. These peach trees are self-pollinating, so you only need a pollinator tree if you want to grow even more peaches. The Brown Select Satsuma Tree with the botanical name Citrus unshiu ‘Brown Select’, is an evergreen mandarin tree of the family Rutaceae. This citrus tree has a dense growth habit and is less weepy than other Satsuma varieties. It has a crown covered with glossy, dark green, broadly lance-shaped, fragrant leaves. This medium-sized Satsuma tree has droopy branches that are nearly thornless.

The Brown Select Satsuma mandarin trees are originally from a group of open-pollinated ‘Kimbrough’ seedlings gathered at the Citrus Research Station in the1960s and chosen during post-freeze appraisal after 1983. The variety was field tested under the label LA 4-40 at Louisiana State University’s AgCenter and was later named Brown’s Select in honor of Ralph Brown, citrus researcher and head of the Citrus Research Station from 1948 until 1977.

Like other Satsuma trees, the Brown Select fruit trees are cold hardy; they flourish in full sunlight but can tolerate temperatures below freezing for a couple of hours.

The Brown Select tangerine tree produces fragrant white blooms that turn into fruit buds with fruits concentrated in clusters on or along the branches. The satsuma fruits are medium to large sized, sweet tasting, and juicy. The fruit is mostly seedless and can be freshly eaten and enjoyed slice by slice right after picking from the tree.
