If you live within USDA Zones 7 to 9, then you can grow your own sweet, nutritious blueberries. The Climax Blueberry variety is one of the most reliable members of the Rabbiteye Blueberry clan and they produce heavy, early yields. Climax Blueberry Bushes are vigorous and since they will reach heights of up to 15 feet, they make terrific hedges. Plant Climax with 2 or 3 other Rabbiteye varieties (such as Powderblue and Tifblue) for cross pollination and the best crops of delicious blueberries.

Climax Blueberry Bushes bloom in early spring and the berries ripen from May through July. The bushes can produce fruit in their first year, and the thick green foliage turns red in fall before the plants go dormant over winter. Climax Blueberry Bushes do not need to be pruned, but they can be trimmed to maintain a sturdy shape. Climax Blueberry Plants are cold hardy down to 10ºF, only need 450 Chill Hours, and can also take hot and humid summers. Premier Blueberries are large, sweet, deep-blue blueberries that grow on shrubby bushes that grow to 8 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide. They grow well in USDA Zones 7 to 9, and only need 500 chill hours (hours below 45º Fahrenheit) to make fruit. The Premier Blueberry Bushes can also tolerate hot summers. The plants require very little maintenance, are resistant to many pests, and need not be pruned.

Premier Blueberries were originally developed at North Carolina State University and released to the public in 1978. Premier Blueberries are Rabbiteye Type Blueberries and can be pollinated by Powderblue or other varieties. Premier Blueberries do well in the ground or in a pot and they need 6 hours or more direct sunlight each day for best results. The bushes bloom in spring and the blueberries are ripe from May to June.

The Tifblue Blueberry is a vigorous grower that is resistant to disease, cold, heat, and drought. The shrubby trees grow to 8 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide. Tifblue Blueberries can be grown in the ground or in pots in USDA Growing Zones 7 to 9. Their white blooms form in March and the ripe Tifblue Blueberries are ready to pick and eat from mid-June through late July. The Tifblue Blueberry Tree grows heavy yields of small to medium-sized, juicy blueberries that are perfect for eating fresh, sharing, and making baked goods and desserts.

Tifblue Blueberry Trees require a pollinator companion blueberry to set and grow fruit, and many varieties will suffice. Good pollinators for Tifblue Blueberry include Pink Lemonade, Georgia Gem, Jersey, Blueray, Toro, Bluecrop, Climax, Powderblue, and Brightwell. Tifblue Blueberry Trees like full sun and well-drained acidic soil. Tifblue Blueberry Trees can be grown as a hedge or in a small grouping with other blueberry varieties.
